Logistic Control System (LCS2)
Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) is the leading air cargo terminal operator in Hong Kong. Its air cargo terminal, SuperTerminal 1, was opened in 1998
at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) at Chek Lap Kok. The US$1 billion facility
is the largest single air cargo terminal in the world with a potential capacity of 3.5
million tonnes per annum.
In 2009, Hactl handled 2.32 million tonnes of air cargo, representing about 70% of
air cargo throughput at HKIA. The Company provides physical cargo handling, air
cargo documentation handling, freighter ramp handling and logistics support
services, serving over 90 international airlines and 1,000 freight forwarders.
Hactl’s LCS2 is an efficient and sophisticated computer system to handle cargo
storage, transfer and retrieval in SuperTerminal 1 for specific types of containers in
an efficient and least manpower manner. The system is developed in house and
provides round the clock service. The LCS2 consists of the core systems LCS-CSS
and LCS-BSS. In addition, a Schematic Display System (SDS) applying geographical
information system technology and a 3D virtual simulator (PLC simulator) are
operated to track and visualise equipment location, resource distribution, and
allow load performance simulation to project the operation needs.

"This application ably demonstrates how continuous improvement has allowed Hactl
to maintain its market leadership at an additional investment per cargo tonne of only
HK$27. It shows the company’s ability to deploy a wide range of technologies that
together enhance its services to more than 90 airlines and 1,000 freight forwarders." |
