Mr. Anthony WU
Chairman, Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

On behalf of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, I would like to extend my best wishes to the Hong Kong Computer Society for organizing such an important conference.

Technology has fundamentally changed the way in which we live and do business to such an extent that we rarely give it a second thought. We have instant access to information, services, and entertainment that was unthinkable in the past. In fast-paced Hong Kong, we have always embraced technology to get the job done. This has enabled businesses to operate more efficiently and effectively to grow their operations both locally and internationally.

Our pillar industries – financial services, trade, logistics, and tourism – have become international leaders in their class around the world, competing with the United States, Europe and Japan. This is no small feat given our population of just 7 million, and it is technology that has allowed Hong Kong to punch far above our weight. Six new incentives unveiled by the Chief Executive in the 2009/10 Policy Address will also be highly reliant on information technology to succeed.

The Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2011 provides the perfect platform for IT professionals, businesspeople, and officials to come together and share their insights, as well as thrash out concerns to drive the industry forward. I wish HKICC2011 every success and look forward to hearing some stimulating discussions during the conference.
