Information & Communication Technology (ICT) has influenced human lifestyle and business operation widely and profoundly, and is expected to play an even more vital role in the future. It has undoubtedly delivered immeasurable value to the modern world, but the challenge to continually deliver sustainable value is still a significant concern to Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2011(HKICC2011) recognizes the importance and stringency to tackle the issue. And I am delighted to announce the HKICC2011 will be taken place on November 23-24, 2011 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with the theme of “Delivering Sustainable Value in a Knowledge Economy – the Challenge for Hong Kong”.

This year, HKICC2011 aims at bringing together ICT experts, business leaders and academics, and policy makers to share their visions and solutions on latest ICT trends and value creation in a newly developed Knowledge Economy environment, ICT industry collaboration in PRD region, and ICT talent cultivation as incessant inflow of new breed of is critical and fundamental to the sustainable development, moreover, sustainable value delivery of the ICT industry.

Over the past decades, we could see the great advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the dramatic transformation and improvement it has made to our society. It is surprising, encouraging and inspiring to witness this amazing era.

We are living in this amazing era, when the world is digitally connected and information driven. ICT has enabled more convenient and speedy information circulation and sharing with the latest communication technology and mobile devices. Knowledge is shared worldwide and boosted at an increasing speed that is faster than ever before.

ICT is so widely adopted in industries and societies that the direct and indirect value created by ICT to the world is beyond imagination. And we can foresee that ICT will continue deliver sustainable value in a knowledge economy.

It is Hong Kong’s big challenge to exploit the tremendous, and more importantly, sustainable value from ICT to advance and excel.

So it is the objective of HKICC2011 to focus on sustainable ICT delivery. I am certain that with the impressive speaker list and participations of such elite delegates, HKICC2011 will be a big success by bringing forward constructive and innovative insights.

When talking about ICT and sustainable value, we say it is talking about the world’s future. And we understand what it means to our government, business and people.

Being the chairperson of the Programme Committee, I must express my sincere appreciation to the committee, and the speakers from broad spectrums and regions, as well as other organizing and supporting members. Their effort and participation make HKICC2011 a landmark event which is to inspire the world with invaluable achievements.

To echo the theme of HKICC2011, the programmes will be featured by hottest ICT trends, including cloud computing, the new mobile life style, social media for business, and knowledge management, to examine the sustainable value that they could deliver. Four parallel sessions will go more in-depth to discuss ICT application in specific industries, namely banking and finance, logistics and transportation, hospitality and tourism, and health.

Furthermore, ICT industry collaboration in the PRD region is receiving more and more attention, and ICT talent cultivation and development is particularly becoming more and more essential as the booming of ICT industry. These are also the topics to be covered by HKICC2011.
