Mr. Sunny W K Lee President, Hong Kong Computer Society
As Asia's World City, and a major global financial centre, Hong Kong tackled the Financial Tsunami with its usual hallmark flair – a combination of hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and the innovative use of Information Technology (IT).
It's clear that the innovative use of technology to create a solid economic return is now embedded deeply in the fabric of Hong Kong's businesses. More than that, it lies at the core of the city's competitiveness.
The Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2009 recognises this synergy – the link between technology and economic performance – and takes it a step further. As local and regional experts examine the latest trends and IT developments, I am certain of one thing. Hong Kong will continue to embrace technology to create value and fuel economic transformation.
On behalf of the Hong Kong Computer Society, I thank you for your support.
Thank you.
Dr. Kennedy Y H Wong, BBS, DCL, JP Conference Chairperson, HKICC2009
Hong Kong is a surprising place. Just when people think they know what makes the city tick, it changes!
Lately, it has become clear that Hong Kong's ability to adapt and meet new economic challenges is due in no small way to eagerness with which individuals, organisations and the public sector have embraced technology.
The results have been stunning. Technology has already radically transformed and dramatically improved many of Hong Kong's businesses and services. Take education, healthcare, transportation, culture and entertainment for example where technology has not only made a practical difference, it has also added an extra, "green" dimension.
Technological innovation has also linked Hong Kong ever more comprehensively with businesses and economy of China, delivering tangible efficiencies and commercial benefits to both sides as well as our customers.
The Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2009 has been designed specifically to reflect this evolving reliance on technology as a competitive differentiator. I am confident that the impressive programme and extensive speaker list will provide insight on what to expect in the coming months and years.
Thank you.
Prof. Paul Y S Cheung Chairperson, HKICC2009 Programme Committee
Understanding the impact of technology on Hong Kong today, and predicting where it will take us tomorrow, is what HKICC2009 is all about. It has been designed to look at IT from the perspective of creating economic value, bringing local and international experts to share the latest trends and IT developments.
As the Chairperson of the Programme Committee, I think the conference programme speaks for itself. In addition to keynote addresses on landmark topics, the speakers have been selected to take delegates on a journey down a variety of parallel tracks. They'll explore specific areas that will make a difference to everyone in Hong Kong as well as beyond our boundaries. They include the Digital Creative Industry, Web x.0 and Social Media, and eHealth are also on the cards, as is IT in a Virtual World.
IT has already paid tremendous dividends for Hong Kong, its economy and the general public. And, using it innovatively is a capability that will keep Hong Kong at the forefront of Asia’s economic performance in the years to come.
I am convinced that HKICC2009 will provide a useful guide for anyone interested in the benefits that technology has already brought, and what technology has in store.
