Mr
Sunny Lee
President, Hong Kong Computer Society
|
On
behalf of the Hong Kong Computer Society, I am delighted
to present in the pages that follow a brief account of
each of the winning entries in the 6th edition of the
IT Excellence Awards.
This year, 80 entries were received, the vast majority
of them is highly impressive and clearly demonstrates
a dedication inspired by a passion for the specific products
and applications that the entrants have invented or developed.
The contestants are also showing a strong desire to put
Hong Kong even more firmly on the global information technology
map.
I am proud to say that in Hong Kong we have excellent
IT products and applications that are created by highly
competent and innovative professionals. More importantly,
we have a society and an administration that is increasingly
attuned to the benefits of information technology for
all. Our profession and its achievements are at the very
heart of our society.
As you reflect on the achievements of the Awards, I invite
you to also reflect on the ways in which all those involved
are helping to serve and shape an entire society.
My heartiest congratulations and thanks to all concerned
in making this edition of the Awards such a success. |

Mr
John C Tsang, JP
Secretary for Commerce, Industry
and Technology |
The
IT Excellence Awards is one of the most prestigious events
in the Hong Kong IT industry. The Awards serves to recognize
IT talents in Hong Kong on the development of innovative
IT products, applications and services.
The winners of the Awards stand for quality and the highest
level of achievement in developing IT applications. Many
recipients of previous IT Excellence Awards have also
been recognized in the Asia Pacific Information and Communications
Technology Awards.
I wish to commend the Hong Kong Computer Society for its
efforts and devotion over the years in promoting IT development
and wider use of IT on our community. The Society has
also done a great deal on raising the standard of IT professionals
in Hong Kong, and in promoting Hong Kong's IT excellence
to other parts of the world.
Finally, I wish to congratulate the winners of this year's
awards. They are good models for others to follow, and
their achievements will help foster the development of
innovative and creative industries in Hong Kong. |

Professor
Lap-Chee Tsui
Chairman of Panel of Judges,
Vice-Chancellor, The University of Hong Kong |
It
gives me immense pleasure to congratulate the winners
of this year's IT Excellence Awards who have stood out
from the biggest number of contestants ever since the
Award was established with their ingenious creations and
innovative ideas.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of the Award and
also a milestone of its development by the addition of
a new category of awards - IT Excellence Awards (Post
Secondary) specifically catered for post secondary students
who can come up with the most innovative information and
communication technology projects. We are certainly glad
to see that among the total 80 entries this year, 8 were
from students of tertiary institutions, attracted by the
newly established Awards.
I commend all the participants for their dedication and
contribution towards Hong Kong's reputation as a technologically
advanced city.
Selecting the winners has been a very challenging job
and at the same time immensely pleasurable, seeing so
many original and creative works from local talents. They
are vivid proofs of the IT culture in business as well
as in our daily life, which the Hong Kong Computer Society
has endeavoured
to establish.
Warmest congratulations to the Society for its vision
and pioneering work in promoting IT in our society. |

Mrs
Agnes Mak, JP
Chairman, Organizing Committee |
On
behalf of the Organizing Committee for the 6th edition
of the IT Excellence Awards - a major initiative of the
Hong Kong Computer Society - I am pleased to observe that
the standard and quality of entries continues to improve.
Given the large number of entries in the Product (SME)
category, I would like to reaffirm the value of information
technology to SMEs, traditionally a mainstay of Hong Kong's
economic performance and resilience. Since using information
technology can add quality and competitiveness to SMEs,
more research is clearly needed to determine why the majority
of SMEs are still failing to dip their toe into the water.
Those SMEs who have themselves created worthwhile products
with some potential may be well placed to assist in such
research.
I would like to thank the sponsors for their invaluable
contribution and the many individuals and organizations
who have helped to bring this year's Awards to such a
successful conclusion.
Particularly I wish to thank the panel of judges, ably
chaired by Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, for the many hours
of self-denying labour they have put into their task.
In congratulating the winners, I would also like to commend
all enterprises who sought to measure their achievements
against the high standards now associated with the Awards. |
