DR. WILLIAM LO, J.P. Ph. D. (Cantab) Dr. William Lo, J.P. is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETALONE.COM Ltd., a company listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. NETALONE.COM (stock code: 336) is an integrated internet company whose strategic intent is to become the leading e-commerce enabler in Asia. NETALONE.COM's businesses focus on being (1) a full service e-commerce ASP (Application Service Provider), (2) an operator of vertical e-commerce portals, and (3) a venture catalyst. Before founding NETALONE.COM, Dr. Lo was the Chief Executive Officer of Citibank's Global Consumer Banking business for Hong Kong, Macau and China from 1998 to 1999. Prior to his appointment at Citibank, Dr. Lo was the Founder & the first Managing Director of Hongkong Telecom's wholly-owned interactive multimedia subsidiary, the Hongkong Telecom IMS Ltd (HKTIMS), and is responsible for developing the world's first commercial broadband Interactive TV (iTV) service and Netvigator - the leading internet access and portal service provider in Hong Kong. Dr. Lo started his business career as a management consultant with McKinsey and Company, specialising in competitive strategy formulation, organisation effectiveness and mergers and acquisitions. Dr. Lo holds a M. Phil. Degree in Molecular Pharmacology and a Ph. D. degree in Genetic Engineering, both from Cambridge University. He was a Commonwealth Scholar, a Croucher Foundation Fellow (H.K.), and a Bye-Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge. He has published more than 20 scientific papers in various learned journals during his research career. Dr. Lo is a member of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong's Growing Enterprise Market (GEM) Listing Committee. He is also a Government-appointed board member of HK Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), member of the Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee (IIAC), the Subventions & Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee (SLFAC) and the Community Involvement Committee. Dr. Lo is also very active in helping the education sector of which he is a member of the Board of Education as well as holding the Chairmanship of the Advisory Committee on Quality Assurance Inspection for the Education Department. Dr. Lo is a Council Member of the Open University of Hong Kong and a member of the Board of Directors of the Provisional HK Science Park Company Ltd. During 1995/1996, Dr. Lo participated as a part-time member of the Government's Think Tank - Central Policy Unit. Dr. Lo serves as a non-executive director on the board of Smartone Mobile Communications Ltd., a leading mobile operator and a Hang Seng Index's constituent stock. He is also a non-executive director of POPstar Communications Inc. (NASDAQ), LECCO Technology Ltd. and Autofreeways.com. In 1996, Dr. Lo was selected as a "Global Leader for the Tomorrow" by the renowned global organisation World Economic Forum for his contributions in bringing multimedia technology and services to the people of Asia. On July 1, 1999 the second anniversary of the return of Hong Kong's Sovereignty to China, Dr. Lo was appointed as a Justice of the Peace of the HKSAR Government. |
