Biography

Prof. OnChing Yue is the Science Advisor in the HKSAR Innovation and Technology Commission. He provides assistance and advice to the Commissioner under the government's new strategic framework in establishing R&D centers with specific focus, including Information and Communications Technologies, Textiles and Clothings, Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, Automotive Parts and Accessories, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies.

Prof. Yue joined the Radio Research Lab at Bell Labs in 1977 after receiving his Ph.D. from UC San Diego. Before leaving Bell Labs in 2003 to join the Chinese University of Hong Kong, OnChing was a department director in the Advanced Technologies division. One key contribution was the 3GPP technical design specifications of HSDPA for throughput exceeding 20Mb/s. One of his 18 patents was named as one of 2003's top five patented new technologies by MIT Technology Review in 2004. His research interests include wireless access networks, security, and application QoS.
