Economic developments combined with technological breakthroughs offer new opportunities and as well as threats to Hong Kong's digital future. This was the message that Sunny Lee, the President of the Hong Kong Computer Society delivered at a press conference to launch the upcoming Hong Kong International Computer Conference (HKICC), entitled "Innovation -Creating Hong Kong's Digital Future," which will take place on 25-26 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

According to Lee, information technology in all its forms - hardware, software and telecommunications - has long been one of Hong Kong's strengths, putting the HKSAR on the map as a world financial centre and a regional business hub.

"The key to retaining this position and building a prosperous digital future will be the innovative use of technology throughout society. That includes the private sector where new services can boost efficiency and competitiveness, the public sector where it can promote involvement in government and provide access to services, and in our daily lives," he said.

一年一度由香港電腦學會主辦的香港國際電腦會議 (HKICC2008) ，將於二零零八年九月二十五至二十六日假灣仔香港會議展覽中心舉行，讓各界人士可與國際及香港資訊科技界人士聚首，互相交流意見。

本年度香港國際電腦會議的主題為「創造數碼新世代」，與會人士將一同探討經濟發展及科技突破為香港數碼新世代所帶來的機遇及挑戰。香港財經事務及庫務局局長馬時亨並將出席開幕典禮，擔任主禮嘉賓。

香港電腦學會會長李惠光指出：「無論資訊科技以硬件、軟件還是電訊等形式出現，都一直是香港的一項優勢，使我們成為世界金融中心及區域商業樞紐。隨著科技發展的步伐日趨急速，香港必須不斷抓緊機會去創新，以建立香港的數碼未來。」

李氏並強調，快速的創新步伐，差不多每天都為我們帶來了新技術、新機遇和新挑戰。他表示：「為了保持香港的競爭力及建設繁榮的數碼新世代，香港整個社會必須貫徹數碼化。在私營機構，新的科技可以提高效率及競爭力；於公共機構，則可提供服務和促進大眾參與政務，因而與市民的日常生活息息相關。」
