Abstract:
We are the first immigrants to the Electronic Society, our children will be the native citizens, so we must help them develop into good, responsible and safe members of that society.
This paper proposes a curriculum for the teaching of ethics, safety and security in our schools and describes the development of course materials to support the curriculum.
Biography:
Alex C.W. Fung received a B.Sc. in 1970 from the University of Hong Kong and Cert.Ed., Adv.Dip.Ed., M.Ed. in subsequent years from the same university. He received his Ph.D. in educational management and administration in 1992 from the London University Institute of Education. He was a secondary school principal in Hong Kong for more than twenty years before he joined the Department of Education Studies of the Hong Kong Baptist University as senior lecturer in 1994. He is currently an associate professor and also Director of the SAMS T&R Unit at the Hong Kong Baptist University.
Allan Dyer first studied biological viruses, graduating in Microbiology from University College London in 1984. He switched fields, gaining his Master's in Control Engineering from Sheffield University in 1987 and combined his skills programming in a haematology research laboratory. He first met computer viruses in 1988 while a Systems Programmer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and joined the team controlling them in a number of London Colleges. He moved to Hong Kong in 1993, and manages F-Secure Anti-Virus and Encryption Software for Yui Kee Computing, which specialises in information and data security in Hong Kong, Macau and the Peoples Republic of China. His articles have appeared in many local publications and he has spoken or prepared papers on viruses at various conferences:
Karen K. P. Cheung received her Teaching Certificate in 1986 from the Northcote College of Education and taught for 2 years in Hong Kong. She received her B.Ed. in 1990 from the London University Institute of Education and M.A. in Psychology of Education in 1991 from the same university. During her stay in London, she took up part time teaching and studied in the Tavistock Clinic. After returning to Hong Kong, she joined Yui Kee Company Ltd. as the Business Development Manager, overseeing security software distribution and received her M.B.A. from Hong Kong Baptist University in 1996.
