Trained as an engineer, Mr Bien’s technical expertise spans from hardware design, software development to lectureship in tertiary institution. He has extensive business and management experience in the finance, telecommunication, logistics, transportation and aviation industries.

Mr Bien obtained his BSc Degree (Hons) in Computer Engineering from Queen's University, Canada and MSc Degree in Communication Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.

The Latest Cybersecurity Threats in Greater Bay Area

Ransomware, like Ryuk, has been used in the final stage of tailored attacks after the target’s systems or networks have been compromised for a period of time. The attacker then manually plants Ryuk to encrypt only critical assets in the victim's environment. In this talk, Frankie is going to show you how to make use of his ransomware IR playbook[1] to handle common ransomware attacks and a special triple-threats ransomware, like Emotet-Trickbot-Ryuk attack.

Accelerating 5G R&D in GBA

5G is coming and is a catalyst for the development and integration of smart cities with Intelligence, Connectivity and Trust technologies. Our Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) in GBA plays a strategic role to supply advanced R&D technologies to incubate local customer-oriented innovations. Together with our WFOE organization in Shenzhen, ASTRI can quickly accelerate our partners’ 5G solutions benefited from our high-quality “made in HK” research supported by HK government.

In this talk, we will introduce ASTRI R&D on the 5G technologies and present some successful stories by tight collaborations with companies in GBA. ASTRI is also promoting an ecosystem of Open-Radio Access Network (O-RAN) where our partners in GBA could be benefited from this new business model to develop their 5G innovated products.

Dr. Eric K. C. TSANG is a Director of the Communications (COM) Technology Division at the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). He has over 18 years’ experience in the wireless communications and machine intelligence, leading a team of 70+ engineers in the applied research and development of 4G and 5G communication systems. His post-doctoral research was in the areas of computer vision, machine learning and artificial neural networks. Dr. TSANG has enabled the team successes in developing commercial grade 5G solutions with intelligent and trusted technologies, e.g. 5G automated guided vehicles (AGV) system. He has extensive experience in building team’s core competencies and enabling new ecosystems.

Dr. TSANG received B.Eng., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2001, 2003 and 2007, respectively.

Currently the Chief Information Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, Mr Andy Bien has been in the Information Technology (IT) industry for over 30 years. He is responsible for the strategic planning and provisioning of IT services to Hong Kong International Airport and its community. He is also active in community works to promote IT industry development, green IT, innovation and talent cultivation.

Trained as an engineer, Mr Bien’s technical expertise spans from hardware design, software development to lectureship in tertiary institution. He has extensive business and management experience in the finance, telecommunication, logistics, transportation and aviation industries.

Mr Bien obtained his BSc Degree (Hons) in Computer Engineering from Queen's University, Canada and MSc Degree in Communication Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.

Dr. Lo is a technopreneur driving innovation for social good. He was a Croucher Fellow at Stanford University and Chief Executive of an advanced European Smart City R&D centre. He won 3 IEEE Best Paper Awards in Glasgow, Paris, and Houston, and successfully transferred inventions to business and academic sectors. In 2018, he helped shape the Design Thinking movement in Hong Kong whose definitive statement at the kickstarting workshop was converted to the name and theme of the programme "Unleash Hong Kong". He is the Chairman of HKIOTA, Founder of Future Impact Lab, and teaches Creativity and Business Innovation at HKU.

Pubs Abayasiri has worked in the technology and energy sector for +15 years. In that time, Pubs has worked in consulting and held positions in a range of industries and companies with the majority in the energy sector. Currently at CLP Holdings, Pubs runs the Digital Products team where he focuses on energy saving solutions.

Within CLP, Pubs lead a range of initiatives including setting up the initial Smart Grid Advanced Metering Infrastructure, managing cross business-unit applications and establishing the analytics practice. More recently Pubs has been managing the Smart Energy Connect program where the mission is to simplify adoption of energy management for corporate customers.

Mr. Edmond Lai

Mr Edmond Lai joined HKPC in 2018, he worked in General Electric (GE) for 22 years. He started in GE as a management trainee in the Information Technology department. After finishing the two-year management trainee programme, he switched to the internal audit and finance function, and had several assignments in various countries (United States, Greater China, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, etc.) and business units (plastics, healthcare, capital, power, aviation, transportation, etc.)

Edmond also worked in commercial and business management roles, progressively taking bigger regional or global profit & loss responsibility in various business units for different industries (rail, mining, renewable energy, marine, energy storage, thermal power generation, etc). He has hands-on experience in leading a sizeable organization in i4.0 transformation and digital products development.

Edmond obtained Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering) and Master of Philosophy (Computer Science) degrees from the University of Hong Kong.

Prior to joining HKBN, Eric was Head of IT and Service Platform at SmarTone Mobile Communications Limited, and before that, he held senior IT positions at Huawei Software Technology, Emperor International Holdings, Westpac, CSL and Bank of America. Eric was recognized as Medium Enterprise CIO of the Year by Computerworld Hong Kong and CIO Connect in 2013. Eric holds a bachelor’s degree in Science from the University of Hong Kong, a master’s degree in business administration Degree from Oklahoma City University, U.S., and a master’s in accountancy Degree from Charles Sturt University, Australia.
