Abstract:

Topic: 'Development Journey of Electronic Health Record for HKSAR'

Over the years, IT development has been a major initiative of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) to support the rapid advances in medical services, as well as improving quality and safety of its healthcare delivery. Today, the Clinical Management System of HA has entered the third generation (CMS III), which aims to build a more robust system with advanced capacities and functionalities for serving increasing healthcare needs.

As part of the healthcare reform initiative, the Hong Kong government embarked on the development of eHealth record sharing system (eHRSS) with leverage of HA's expertise in clinical system development. HA has served as a technical agency for the electronic health record (eHR) Office of the Government to develop and implement eHR program. The Phase I work will focus on building an information sharing infrastructure, establishing eHR data standard and developing clinical modules/system to facilitate the electronic medical record adoption in private sectors. The eHR Programme aims to create and maintain a territory-wide, patient-oriented electronic health record for each and every citizen capturing essential health data that can be readily accessed by healthcare providers for healthcare-related purposes subject to the concerned individuals consent.

This talk will summarize the current status of healthcare IT development and the latest update on the eHRSS development and implementation strategy of Hong Kong for supporting healthcare needs.
