Abstract:

Topic: Singapore Green Data Centre Technology Roadmap 2015 - 2030

Data centres consume approximately 6.9% of the total energy used in Singapore. The Green Data Centre Technology Roadmap sets out a framework to improve sustainability, primarily aimed at; reducing energy consumption and embedded energy, and improving the energy efficiency of facilities, physical IT and software. The amount of time and investment required to achieve the performance goals stated in the Roadmap varies from large scale, long-term strategic initiatives, to short-term tactical improvements.

The energy efficiency issues associated with cooling in Singapores climate are exacerbated by year round high temperatures and humidity levels when compared to other data centre city hubs globally. In Singapore climatic factors are normally above the current recommended operating environmental conditions for IT equipment. It would be beneficial for Singapore to pilot several innovative cooling strategies as local proof of concept solutions. Such proof of concepts will serve to:

- Obviate climatic disadvantages
- Demonstrate the practical working application of methods
- Engender confidence within data centre owners to implement these methodologies
