The world we live in stresses our societal planning and management abilities, our physical infrastructure as well as our health and personal growth. Growing urbanization, modernization and complexities introduce additional challenges. Cities are facing budget pressures, scarce resources and increasing competition amongst each other. At the same time we have built an infrastructure of unique density, complexity and reach: Global networks of unprecedented bandwidth. billions of mobile phones and devices, multiple billions of sensors and connected things in the cloud and first and foremost volumes of data that currently double every other year. This potential of people, information, connectivity and ideas is not just replenishing itself and growing, it has become a vital source of new raw-material to create solutions that help forward looking city leaders convert challenges into opportunities
