Mr. Michael LEUNG
President, Hong Kong Computer Society

I wish to extend a very warm welcome to all delegates attending the Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2014 (HKICC 2014). This event will bring together ICT industry leaders and professionals locally and from overseas, to discuss the future of technology and how it will continue to change our lives, especially in cities.

It is recognized that community development is dependent not only of physical infrastructure but, perhaps more importantly, also of intellectual investments. ICT is rapidly changing the ways in which resources and services are rendered by government, health care, business and commerce, and many other aspects that collectively shape our modern lifestyle today. It is therefore fitting that the Conference’s theme is on “Smart City’’; on how to unleash the full potential of technology for the benefits of urban dwellers, and to address concerns such as data security and privacy. We are extremely delighted and fortunate to be able to engage so many experts on these various topics, and to foster inspiring discussions among participants.

I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the members of the Organizing Committee and the Programme Committee, as well as the staff members of the HKCS, for their dedication and hard work. Special thanks must also go to the speakers and panelists for their participation, and to all of the sponsors for their generous and unfailing support.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the delegates for taking part in this Conference. I hope we will all find it informative and enjoyable. And to those coming from overseas, I wish you a very pleasant stay in Hong Kong!

It is my great honour to chair the Programme Committee of the Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2014 on behalf of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Thanks to the long-standing dedication and effort of previous Committees, the Conference has today established a strong presence in Hong Kong and the region as a signature event for leaders and professionals from the industry, government, business and academia to exchange experience and spark ideas; to bond and collaborate. Inspired by the flourishing ICT technology advancement, coupled with the emergence of an array of intelligent devices and solutions, and the “smart city” concept celebrated by governments worldwide, we have adopted “Smart City – Let IT Go!” as a timely theme for this year’s Conference.

Indeed, for decades, the significance of ICT in constantly shaping and transforming the way we live and conduct businesses has met no challenges. In nowadays digitalised world, we find traces of ICT everywhere.
