Topic : "The Value of Personal Certification"
Abstract : Is certification worth the study, stress, examination, and continued education required for recognition by your peers? Companies spend large amounts of money and time to achieve ISO 9001 or SEI CMM recognition. Individuals spend less money, but proportionately even more time to achieve professional recognition. Is all this time and money well-spent? This talk will give Dr. Horch's experiences with both company and personal certification, and his conclusions as to their value.
Biography : John has nearly 40 years of experience in the software field, of which over 30 have been in Software Quality Assurance (SQA). He was responsible for SQA on the Safeguard ABM System, and was Manager of System Integrity for the International Systems Division of Unisys.John has been involved in the verification and validation of software development, documentation and quality programmes on behalf of government and commercial clients.
John's involvement in several professional organizations within the industry is testimony to the broad experience and detailed knowledge he has to share. Among others, he is the former member of the Standards Committee of the IEEE Standards Board, former chairman of the IEEE Computer Society Software Engineering Standards Sub-Committee, member of the Board of Advisors of the Quality Assurance Institute. He is a noted speaker and presenter at SQA seminars worldwide.
