BISID Membership Application form

Dear current and potential BISID members,

Business Intelligence Special Interest Division (BISID) has just been established early this year. Our first goal is to gather industry experts in the BI field to form a core BISID committee. We are happy to say that we have received tremendous support from local and international companies in Hong Kong, major Business Intelligence vendors and consulting firms and local universities. We have already formed a solid BISID committee with over 30 experts in the BI field. In order to develop our BISID and the overall BI industry in Hong Kong more effectively, we have set up the seven sub-committees to focus on the key areas of Business Intelligence. You can find more information about these sub-committees in the sections below.

This is definitely a great start for our BISID as well as the BI industry in Hong Kong. Our BISID Committee members are all excited about this opportunity and keen on serving the IT and business communities in Hong Kong. If you are interested to become a general member of our BISID or participate in our BISID Committee, please let us know. For enquiry, please contact Miss Sky Hui (Tel: 2834 2228 Email: bisid@hkcs.org.hk) of HKCS office. For more information, please visit our web site http://www.hkcs.org.hk/en_hk/sg/bisid/index.asp

We look forward to meeting you soon in our coming BISID activities. Cheers!

Best Regards,
Mr. Toa Charm

BISID Sub-Committees:

1. Research, Publication, Best Practices, Knowledge Repository
This BISID Sub-Committee will collect, produce and share local and international best practices and success stories of Business Intelligence with both business and IT communities in Hong Kong.   It will also do relevant survey and research on BI areas, particularly those areas relevant and applicable to Hong Kong market.  A BISID Knowledge Repository will be set up to share and exchange BI knowledge effectively.

Mr. Frederick Koo
Mr. Newton Mak
Mr. Benedict Lau
Mr. Raymond Lau
Mr. Tony Lau
Mr. Garrett Siu

2. Training & Development
One of the challenges for the BI development in Hong Kong is that the business community does not have sufficient knowledge on the values of BI to their businesses and operations.  Therefore, there are no strong executive sponsorship to put forward sufficient funding and resources to do BI projects.  It is also a big challenge for most of the IT community to understand the business and technological values of BI and more importantly communicate with their users or customers on the strategic, tactical and operational benefits of BI.  This sub-committee will develop and offer effective training courses to educate both business and IT communities on BI applications and technologies.   It will also work closely with the Professional Development and Certification Sub-Committee to develop training courses for potential professional certification on BI areas.

Committee Members: Mr. Jack Cheung
Ms. Jones Chow
Mr. Tak Chu
Mr. Cam Ng
Mr. Eric Pang
Ms. Lana Lo

3. Professional Development and Certification
BI is a relatively new area for IT but potentially a key area for IT professionals to develop their long-term career.  BI is a hybrid discipline of IT and business which matches well with the strength of Hong Kong very much.  HKCS has been contributing on the IT Professional Certification for Hong Kong for many years.   This BISID Sub-Committee will investigate what and how we can develop a professional career and certification for BI practitioners in Hong Kong and grow this community with the aim of making BI as one of the IT core competence for Hong Kong IT professionals in the Greater China region.

Committee Members: Mr. Eddie Choi
Mr. William Chu
Mr. Clifford Tse

4. SME and Government
Over 90% of Hong Kong companies are small-to-medium sized companies (SME).   The adoption of IT by these SME is traditionally quite low.  There is no exception for BI.   However, most of the foreign large as well as SME companies, they are making use of BI to gain their competitive edges.  To help these Hong Kong SMEs become more effective and competitive under the globalization pressure,  we need to equip them with BI knowledge and applications so that they can make better decisions and strategies in order to compete with their foreign and local rivals.  Funding and policy support from the government is a key success factor to help these HK SME to use BI effectively.   This BISD sub-committee will focus on understanding the BI needs of these Hong Kong SMEs, educate them on the business benefits and the related technologies of BI, give them consultancy and advices on making use of BI, and liaise with the HK SAR Government to support these SME to use these BI solutions.

5. Membership and Alliance
In order to make BI a success, both business and IT communities need to understand and support it.   This BISID Sub-Committee will recruit, develop and maintain members from both business and IT worlds to join our BISID.   It is also our aim to connect the business users with HKCS through our BISID activities and expose them to the business values of various IT areas so that they can adopt these IT solutions better and make use of them in their businesses.  Once these business people have joined BISID, we will encourage them to participate in other HKCS activities.  This BISID Sub-Committee will also form partnership and alliances with relevant BI, IT and business organizations in Hong Kong, China, the US, Europe and others.
