Communication and Marketing

Introduction

The Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS) recognises the importance of enhancing the communication with all of our stakeholders, including the HKSAR Government, ICT professionals and the media so as to heighten our public image. Last year, the Communication & Marketing Committee (CMC) took the initiative to arrange the Sichuan Earthquake Donation, which gave a helping hand to the victims in Mainland China. The committee also held various media luncheons to enhance the branding of HKCS.

Fund-Raising for the Sichuan Earthquake Victims

In May 2008, the 8-magnitude earthquake that struck China's Sichuan province cost a shocking number of lives and devastated the region by collapsing buildings, schools and plants. HKCS appealed to members' urgent help and support to the earthquake victims. Donations were organised to help the worst affected people and an amount of more than $100,000 was raised. The funds collected were donated to Hong Kong Red Cross. The HKCS would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the support of corporations and individual donors.

HKCS Media Luncheon

In order to work closely with media and update them with the latest direction of the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), the Communication and Marketing Committee (CMC) organises media luncheon from time to time to catch up with the media.

Last year, CMC held a number of media luncheons with different themes including the "Introduction of HKCS" which gave an idea of the HKCS's market position and major events; the "Chengdu Delegation" which introduced what HKCS had done in Chengdu to give hands to the Sichuan Earthquake victims; the "HKCS Outstanding IT Achiever Awards 2008" which was the first of its kind award in Hong Kong to recognise the ICT professionals; the Survey on the "Current State of Hong Kong IT Industry in the Midst of Global Economy" which announced the HKCS members" concern of their jobs after the financial tsunami.

All luncheons were well received by the media. The participants shared information in a cordial atmosphere.
